Important Bird Area Dedication
by Audobon Maryland-DC
Saturday, August 21, 1 to 5 pm
Mattingly Park, Indian Head, Maryland
Family activities! Free boat rides to the Lotus Blossoms!
Music by Grace Griffith & Lynn Hollyfield!
Show support for Mattawoman Creek, and have a good time doing it!
Come celebrate the beautiful tidal-freshwater marshes surrounded
by the Mattawoman Wildlands. The blossoms are a short paddle
from the park, so bring your canoe or kayak, or rent one from
UpTheCreekRentals.net located at the Park (reservations strongly
encouraged; 301-743-3733). Or take a free boat ride to see the blossoms.
Face painting, fish printing. Bring your family and a picnic blanket!
1:30 pm: Brief program by Audubon Maryland-DC dedicating Mattawoman Creek
and its forests as an Important Bird Area.

Directions: Take MD Route 210 south all the way to its end at the Navy base.
To drop off a boat: Take last left before the base to Mattingly Ave, drive
slowly 3/4 mile to the creek.
To park: Take last right before the base to Pye Street, to dirt road marked
Lotus Blossom Festival Parking. Park on grass. Use our free shuttle bus
for the 5 minute ride to the event.

Sponsored by the Smarter Growth Alliance for Charles County
of which the Mattawoman Watershed Society is member.

"Imagine Jill Scott and Otis Redding had a daughter
and Tracy Chapman was her god-mother... now imagine
she spent summers teaching herself piano in Chicago
and guitar in the mountains of North Carolina...
that would probably sound something like the music
I am fortunate enough to call my own."
