Climbing

It was spring when my first foot
gripped the first rock
and my fingers took flight
where the first breeze shook,

and they waved their flags of farewell
and the band garbled a waltz,
there was popcorn to sell
and I was cheerful and false.

And all the time I was moving
The felt the air above and the air like snow
And all the blossoms were falling
to the earth far below.

I rose so quickly,
I forgot the trees and earth
Then in the waterfall
I had a soaking, second birth.

The hottest days, deep in the caves,
I rested, chilled with sweat.
My friends had told me I was brave.
I didn't know it yet.

And all the time I was moving,
I held the air above and the air below
and all the snow was falling
down my neck, drifts of snow.

On the peak, fall was winter,
and spring came late with the hawk.
I built a cabin for shelter
and sang when I couldn't talk.

But with the rising of the green
my longing rose as well,
and caught me like a fish in between
the silence and the tale to tell.

And the hawk said, ride the wind,
go visit your valleys and fields,
but come home where the air is thin
and the snow heals.

And all the time I was flying,
I surrendered to air and its flow,
and forgot all my fear of falling
and rode high in the spirited snow.

I went back with my hope to the stone,
and the hawk, who had lived as a man,
said the weight and the song felt like home
he (had) learned to understand.

Could he stay and sing a little more?
Could he feel earth inside his fists?
Didn't I want to rise and soar?
Didn't I want to know the mists?

Now I'm old, strong and ready,
to climb down to village and plain.
In the summer light, snow melting steady
like a waterfall blessing the rain.

Now you say I am a legend,
and world I climbed from is past
I say time is a beaded bright curtain
and the world more vast.

And all the time I was flying,
I remembered the climb and the snow,
I remembered the hawk and the dying
of the things I used to know
of all the things I used to know

Layers

Layers on layers
Piled up on new
Layers on layers
How can I get to you
I'm searching I'm digging
I'm praying and I'm singing
When will I, when will I, when will I find you

I see a hidden identity
I hear a cry unheard
I feel the joy of laughter
Cut down by a voice and a stare

It's a long journey
with hidden treasures along the way
a tall cliff, a deep cavern
I won't let them get in my way
I'm standing alone
On the earth nothing I own
Close to sky the stars the sounds
I'm near the heart of underground
And there's

Layers on layers
Piled up on new
Layers on layers
How can I get to you
I'm searching I'm digging
I'm praying and I'm singing
When will I, when will I find you

I fear of being lost
But hear an inner voice
That sees and accepts myself
Releasing a controlling force

Layers on layers
Piled up on new
Layers on layers
How can I get to you
I'm searching I'm digging
I'm praying and I'm singing
When will I, when will I find you

Halo

The halo wraps around this blue moon and I'm sitting here
I gaze out my window, and see the same stars streaming, gleaming
Hope can only go so far to save a love so true
But if love is the truth why do I hope to know the answers

I'm hanging on to a thread but it's unraveling
I'm standing on the edge of a limb
aren't older branches
supposed to grow stronger
Fear reaches deep inside and cuts down to your soul
It can rock the strongest heart and shatter what you've come to know

You can look up to the sky and dream your days away
You can reach up to the stars and wish your life away
But all we really have
Is this single moment
All we really know
Is this point in time

The universe is moving forward just as it should do
My mind is clouded by illusions that I hold of you
But I will trust that all is well and what we come to seek
Will come to us so subtly then knock us to our knees, to our knees

The halo wraps around this blue moon and we're sitting here
We gaze out our window and see the same stars
Streaming, gleaming...

The halo wraps around the moon...

Late Summertime

The way the sun is in the sky
Crickets humming in time
You see the leaves begin to die
We're in late summertime

The season reaps what we have sown
The earth readies for the cold
Autumn often comes to mind
In this late summertime

Daylight slowly shortens now
Almost half the year is done
And on this perfect day I find
I'm lost within late summertime

Shadows cast a longer view
Cooler nights are welcome too
Flowers start to bide their time
They know it's late summertime

A hint of fall is in the air
Winter's hiding still time to spare
Spring just seems so far behind
Cause it's late summertime

Daylight slowly shortens now
Almost half the year is done
And on this perfect day I find
I'm lost within late summertime

Boats Gone By

Water slapping
at the river bank
thrumming where a keel can't cut the wave
there's a story in the tide
that sings the lullaby
that sings of boats gone by

yellow iris whistles in the dark
you think it calls you back,
don't go far, and you are home.
wind tangling in your hair,
can you hear the song?
the song of boats gone by

where the otter shakes the rainbow
drops of mud and wet,
and where the heron peers into the blue,
that's not a tear in your eye –
it's the wake of boats gone by
it's the wake inside the wake of boats gone by

the river tends the memory
of every ship that sailed
the ones that skimmed the surface
and the ones that fell.
your father's and his father's
and your brother's and your hands
are rippled with the trailsv of boats gone by
long gone by

nestled gently near the shore,
the river's in your soul.
do not mourn the sail that tore,
it's mended now and whole.
can't you see the boats gone by?
make a wish on boats gone by
oh don't you cry
make a wish on boats gone by

Thirteen Summer Moons

Thirteen moons
thirteen summers gone
thirteen's come so soon
no more a little girl

You're going through the changes
And time is left behind
Everything is rearranging
This green eyed girl of mine

That August morning
The woods were keeping time
When we first held you
Your little hand in mine

And all our lives were changing
Time had started new
And we were rearrangingv Together...now with you

So much to tell you
So much ahead to see
You're drifting, drifting further
Yet still a part of me

And as you front the changes
Like phases of the moon
Wondering, waning, rearranging
Dreaming of all you'll do...

You're rising, higher
Like this moon tonight
your light is shining
It's shining clear and bright

Thirteen moons
thirteen summers gone
thirteen's come so soon
a little girl no more

You're going through the changes
Leaving time behind
Everything is rearranging
This green eyed girl of mine
This girl of mine
This girl of mine

The Waiting

As I stand and watch the woods
Wondering what's to come
Through the trees a redtail flies
And perches nearby
And she's watching everywhere
Turns her head with ease
Then she lights up on the wind
And soars with the breezev And she is waiting
She is waiting

A spark of life inside grows, a wonder I can feel
Is this really happening, this gift so real?

As I watch her in the wind
To her nest she flies
Instinct guides her every way
Prepares her days as I
When you go with natures flow
Leading you through change
Nothing ever stays the same
Anyway, anywhere
And I am waiting
I am waiting

Of all the gifts that come in life, some pass by your door
When you create a gift from love, you'll search no more

The future's filled with promise
A cradle full of dreams
And very soon we'll come to find
What all this means
But for now we're waiting
We are waiting
Oh, waiting
We are waiting

World of Sky

Up above the world of sky
World of Sky
That's how you hear it
World of Sky
That's how you sing it
I know you hear things differently
I know you say things the way you see them

Look up high,
The stars are dancing
Foggy morning
What are we doing up here

You are singing when you're happy
A playful mothers' child
Running freely
you stop and say 'quiet'
Let's listen
to what the wind is saying

Hand in Hand
My liddy, liddy girl
Hand in Hand
My little sweetum
I know someday you'll see things differently from me
I know you'll say things the way you see them

World of Sky
That's how you hear it
World of Sky
That's how you sing it

I know you hear things differently
I know you say things the way you see them

World of Sky
Will be our memory
Of days gone by
And how we spent them

We can return to our World of Sky
Any time we need to
We'll go back to our World of Sky
Our World of Sky...
Our World of Sky
Our World of Sky
Our world of Sky

Fall to Grace

We all are human
I hear your cry
Sometimes we let it out
Sometimes we hide it
This thread so common
Together we are strong
And will lift the weight of your burden
And help you move along

Don't you worry
Step through your fear
Never knowing
Your strength is near

Tumbling, twisting, turning
A gentle fall to grace
That cradles as you stumblev And settles you in place

Sunlight waning, darkest night
The stars are all aligned
live your truth, step back to see
You'll be surprised at what you'll find

I hear your laughter
In the wind
It echoes loud and long
Invites me in

Autumn days and starry nights
Floating in the breeze
A warm embrace, soon lullabies
Not ready to leave

We all are human
I hear your cry
Go on and let it out
No need to hide it

We're all together, in the weave
woven close and strong
it will lift the weight of that burden

and help you move along
You'll be moving right along, you'll be moving right along

Freedom to Fly

Winter fields, lying still
say good bye, tomorrow will
bring the new, we're moving on
going forward, watch the dawn

always change, blankets old
letting go, it's good we're told
warming sun, opens seeds
growing wild, calls to me

Close your eyes
And feel the world
Hold on tight
Your in the swirl
Don't look back
There's nothing to leave
Feel your freedom to fly
Go on now just fly

River stones, bake in sun
roughness smoothed, by riversong
moving towards,the open sea
flowing wild, calls to me

back to winter, long dark nights
laying dormant, decreased light
thoughts arise, from the deep
move you towards your, dreams to keep...
